Short welcome speech for school assembly

Follow Elite Kids on. An opening that suits the formal context, addressing the very particular audience of the speech. Good evening teachers, students and guests. I'd like to welcome everyone to the opening night of Reading Week. Gives the audience clear signposts about the purpose of the speech, its content and its structure. This makes the speech easier to follow later on. On behalf of the whole school, I'd like to extend a special welcome to John Marsden, our featured author for this year's events. Tonight I'm going to talk about what Reading Week means, the importance of Mr Marsden's visit, and the events we have planned. Childhood anecdote changes the pace and tone of the speech from a formal to a more personal one. What was the first book you ever read [Question grabs attention of the audience]? My earliest childhood memory is of my mum reading "Good Night Moon" to me every night before bed. I learnt to love books because it meant spending time with my mum. As I grew older, I read stories that made me passionate about Human Rights and the environment [Personal observation contains one of the main messages in this speech]. Books made me the person that I am. Sentence links to previous paragraph. Gives rationale for telling the personal story. That's why The Reading Club has worked so hard preparing for this week. We believe in the power of stories to inspire, inform, challenge and entertain. Books can create lasting memories and inspire you to make the world a better place [Repetition of the speech's message but now as a strong statement rather than through an anecdote]. Linking statement improves the flow of the different sections of the speech. That leads me to our special invited guest, John Marsden. His books are extreme popular at our library with boys and girls of all ages. His stories contain important messages about friendship, compassion and the lessons of adolescence. I'm sure his workshops will continue to inspire many of you this week [Address audience directly to grab attention]. He's also happy to answer any of your questions! Along with our Meet-the-Author night, there are many other exciting events planned for Reading Week. Our poetry slam event seeks to inspire the love of poetry. Book stalls will operate every lunch period. You'll have the chance to buy the beautiful hand-made books created by our younger students [Unique details adds interest to list]. Competition winners for short story prizes will be announced every morning. Check the main notice board for our complete schedule of events.

Welcome message for new session of school

Will I connect with teachers in my new school? How will I greet my students? And of course, the most important: Where can I find the copier?? Everyone has first-day nerves, from brand new teachers to the most experienced educators. My jitters peak during those first few moments of anticipation before students arrive. But once I see the sea of students in the hallways heading towards my classroom, I take a deep breath and the year begins. Even as a seasoned teacher, I look for ways to make the start of the school year one to remember in a good way. I go through the usual steps of figuring out my class theme and colors, seating plan, class routines and procedures, and a welcome letter. It is rare that I start the year using the same theme as the previous year, but this year is the exception. Last year, using my Twitter theme, my students took pictures using hashtag bubbles. I wanted to build on that first day picture tradition with a little something extra. In addition to using the hashtag speech bubbles, my students will also have their picture taken using a photo booth frame. I created two versions: one using a template that I purchased from Etsyand one I created using simple items found at my local dollar store. The template was easy to use, but the process was a little expensive. After ordering the template for a nominal fee, I had to go to an office supply store to print the image. Printing the image to poster size was an ouch! Thankfully I used a teacher discount. I also purchased foam board from a crafts store to use as backing for the poster template. The rest was easy: adhere the poster to the foam board and cut out the center for the photos! Thanks RJ for being my beta tester and helping me with the photos! For the second photo frame, I used dollar store items. I would recommend not using foam board from a dollar store. It did not hold up as well as the one that I purchased from the arts and craft store. It would crumble and tear as I cut out the center with an X-Acto knife. Getting the board from the crafts store was worth the extra few dollars for a more polished look. After cutting the center, I glued my welcome hashtags!

Welcome speech for new students in school

By: B Kelly. Ladies, gentlemen and children, boys and girls, it gives me very great pleasure to welcome you to Aquinas Diocesan Grammar school on this our Open Morning. Today has been specially designed for all of you to see at first hand what we as a school are about. It is a chance for you all to sample Aquinas, the community, the family and above all the learning and teaching school, which is now known as a centre with high expectations, high standards and high achievements. So let me tell you about us, about what we do, what we believe in and what we value. Above all else, we are about children and young people, their learning, their needs and even their problems. We are about the whole child. We have the highest expectations for each young person in our care and, as such, it is our responsibility to do our utmost to ensure that that is exactly what each of them realises. So how do we do this? Our staff is committed, caring and professional in all that they do as teachers and as tutors. We have a pastoral care system which is strong and focused on our children, with strong emphasis on clear and open communication with parents and carers. We never lose sight of the fact that our children belong first and foremost to our parents, and so, in practice, we operate an open door policy of communication whereby if there is an urgent need to talk to a staff member, then so be it. We cannot guarantee to resolve every difficulty but we will put our utmost into doing so. We are flexible and understanding, promising to work around difficulties which may arise in the lives of our young charges, because as we adults know, life is not all plain sailing and things happen, or as our young people say, stuff happens. We therefore work very hard to ensure that our school is indeed a safe space and as far as possible, a happy place for each child. This is so important because the happy child is the child who learns and succeeds best. Each pupil within the Aquinas community is in the care of a tutor who in turn is guided by the Year Head. Tutors and Year Heads meet on a frequent and regular basis or as the need arises to report, advise and talk. Years are in the care of Mr Paul Devlin, their Senior Teacher while Years 13 and 14 are in the care of Mrs Julia Dolan, both of whom oversee not only the pastoral care of pupils, but also the curricular needs and development of those in their care. Our pastoral care is second to none. But do not simply take my word for this. Let me tell you now about our academic workings. In Year 8 we use as our baseline information for each child their GL score and each class teacher sets targets accordingly for their pupils. Common assessment tasks are taken by pupils in first, fourth and Year 13 and each teacher can then ascertain whether a pupil is progressing satisfactorily, or whether a young person requires some extra support or monitoring. We know from experience that pupils buy into this very easily and quickly. We organise induction meetings for parents at the beginning of each Key Stage. Support for, not only our students but also parents and carers, is vital, for we believe in the education of our pupils as a three sided equation: parents children and ourselves as practitioners. That way success lies when we all work together to guide and educate and foster our children in all they undertake. Studies have shown that the most successful students are those who have good familial support as well as school support throughout their time in school. Let me give you some clear evidence of our high academic successes. Last year 4 of our Year 14 students were accepted into Oxbridge as were two others from the previous year. They are currently studying medicine, mathematics, English, Arabic and Law. This year we have three pupils who have been accepted to study Modern and Medieval languages, Mandarin Chinese and Mathematics; two in Cambridge and one in Oxford.

Start your speech by greeting the audience, before giving an overview of the event. End the speech by introducing the next speaker and thanking the audience again for attending. When you are writing your speech, make sure that you establish the right tone, that your speech is within the set time limit, and that you keep the purpose of your speech in mind as you write. Grab your audience's attention with a strong opening. Start with a loud voice and a strong presence that welcomes everyone and gets them involved. Ask a question they can respond to or tell a joke — anything to connect with the audience. Do something that grabs their attention and excites them and makes them thrilled about the event. In the main body of your speech, acknowledge 2 or 3 people who played important parts in organizing the event. You should also emphasize special parts of the event that people should pay attention to, such as where dinner will be or where a conference session will take place. Not only will you find 10 welcome speeches to kick off your next church service or large event, but also important principles to remember when preparing for the next time you need to welcome people to the next gathering. When done right, a welcome speech gets people focused, sets the tone for the meeting, gives some sense of the agenda and outcomes, and gets everything off on the right foot. Even the most seasoned speaker should shy away from completely improvising. Here are some of the hazards of inadequate preparation:. What you inevitably forget is how unnerving it becomes when pairs of eyes are fixed on you. The other side of the rambling coin is the stammering. In the meantime, the stuttering starts and you have a hard time getting back on track. Nothing breaks tension like jokes, right? Well, not so fast. Jokes are like pork: Wonderful if properly prepared, but when you start serving them up only half-baked, you have a good chance of turning off everyone. The key to being prepared lies in being able to speak in a way that feels extemporaneous. You just want to appear cool, calm, and confident. Preparedness will help you get therem. Meeting the gaze of people in the room is going to help sell it. Most good welcome speeches are going to share some common components. Here are six things every good welcome speech should do:.
